Opyos Vermouth Rouge de Luxembourg is a handcrafted aperitif inspired by the Italian tradition from Turin. It is a blend of white and red wine flavoured with various infusions made from herbs, roots, flowers and fruits. The result is a ruby-red liquid whose careful balance of bitterness, sweetness, fruitiness and freshness provides a refreshing yet complex experience.
When it comes to making our Vermouth Rouge de Luxembourg, meticulous planning and a precisely timed production process are of exceptional relevance. Our Vermouth Rouge de Luxembourg is a composition of wine and tinctures. The process begins with the selection of the appropriate white as well as red wine, followed by a selection of the desired aromatising herbs, roots, flowers and fruits. To produce the tinctures, the selected ingredients are macerated together with alcohol and water in separate recipients for different lengths of time and at various alcohol levels. This extraction process allows the aromas, essences, essential oils and colours contained in the herbs, roots, flowers, and fruits to be absorbed by the alcohol-water solution.
Depending on what needs to be extracted from the ingredients, the maceration period and the alcohol amount is varying. After the completion of the maceration phase, every single ingredient is slightly pressed and filtered. The result is a number of different tinctures, each with its own individual characteristics and contributions to the final product. Once the wine and tinctures are ready, all the single components are precisely blended, and sugar is added to the mixture. Once all the elements have married harmoniously, the Vermouth is filtered, and the batch tasted and validated before our Vermouth Rouge de Luxembourg is ready to be bottled.
Filled with menthol and wormwood, paired with spicy sage and a touch of floral scents deriving from roses, elderflower and gentian blossom. Altogether rounded off by persisting fresh lemon and orange notes.
The first impression is marked by a subtle aromatic spiciness, reminding of cloves, coriander and a hint of nutmeg. It is followed by aromas of sweet orange peel as well as strawberry and complemented by the acidity of the wine.
Remarkably pleasant persistence, driven by aromas of mint, eucalyptus as well as gentian root and ending in a bitter-sweet finish shaped by a mild freshness.
Enjoy Opyos Vermouth Rouge de Luxembourg straight or with ice cubes garnished with a slice of orange. Alternatively, for lovers of the bittersweet Italian classic, try out a Negroni. Cheers!
